Day 1 - Leave WA & Head for Newport, OR

Today marked our departure from the great state of WA and we headed for Newport, OR. In true Western WA fashion, it rained for the majority of the time we were in WA. It stopped a little once we got into Oregon, but was still really cloudy & misty. The girls were troopers for the most part for our first day on the road, but we were all really tired from a late night & an early morning getting all our bags packed, the room cleaned, & the cars packed up. I don't think you could fit one more thing in either vehicle....so no souvenirs except maybe a t-shirt or a magnet :)

Jillian ready to hit the road!

Kylie looking thrilled to be starting our trip!

During our trip we stopped at a scenic overlook just outside of Astoria, OR in Cannon Beach. The views were amazing & Kylie wanted to run down and play at the beach! We were tempted to, but the weather was just not cooperating today. Here are some great pictures we took at the overlook & once we arrived in Astoria:

The Lewis & Clark Bridge we crossed leaving WA & entering OR - Astoria, OR

Cannon Beach, OR from the scenic overlook!

Rock formation in the ocean off Cannon Beach

Tillamook Rock Lighthouse - a very cool picture!

About dinner time we finally arrived at our destination - Newport, OR and had a yummy dinner at a cool little diner called "Flashbacks". It was a 50s style restaurant and the girls loved their meals because they arrived in a 50s car! The best part was that it was in walking distance of the hotel!! We are now in for the evening and all looking forward to a good night's sleep! Stay tuned for Day 2 in Brookings, OR.....good night for now! ~The Thayers & Mom-Mom
